Historical Perspective

My first impression of USA has been since 22nd November, 1963, the day JFK was assassinated. It appeared as headlines in newspapers. I read the news during school assembly. I tried to educate myself about America. After joining military it became an obsession. It was then called Super Power. Peep into US history said otherwise. USA was thrashed by Korea, Vietnam and lesser powers over the years. Latest being Iran calling the shots.

Disintegration of USSR in 1991 crowned USA as the only Super Power. In last 35 years China has caught up with USA in all spheres and silently claiming the numero uno spot. Trump has accepted that fact by receiving Chinese President Xi Jinping at the airport on 23rd September, 2026 for a bilateral under the dark shadow of 100% tariff threat.

Background

US duplicity in international affairs is a stark reality. US administration does not shy away from supporting a terrorist nation Pakistan. Democratic values of USA are a sham. In 2026 USA virtually stands isolated in global arena. EU nations, Canada, Turkiye no longer accept US hegemony. Double standards of USA has been a consistent and permanent attribute during post 2nd World War era. Few unquestionable examples are listed below.

Nuclear Fuel Purchase from Russia

After having dropped two nuclear weapons US administration has been preaching the rest of the world to not develop nukes. USA is not a signatory to Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty (NPT). That besides USA has been buying nuclear fuel from Russia under the MEGATONS to MEGAWATT project illuminating bulbs in half the USA. Just a decade ago American light bulbs were powered by dismantled Russian nuclear weapons. That was made possible by the program, an agreement negotiated after the collapse of the Soviet Union to convert uranium from Russia’s nuclear weapons stockpile into fuel for US nuclear power plants. The unconventional policy was first proposed by MIT physicist Thomas Neff in a 1991. By the time Megatons to Megawatts ran its full course from 1993 to 2013, it had eliminated about 20,000 nuclear warheads and stood out as a point of shared pride in the often jaded arms control and disarmament field. “Nearly every commercial nuclear reactor in the United States received nuclear fuel under the program,” then-US Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz said after the final uranium shipment left St. Petersburg for Baltimore 10 years ago. It was, he said, “one of the most successful nuclear non-proliferation partnerships ever undertaken.”

Formally known as the US-Russia highly enriched Uranium agreement, the Megatons to Megawatts deal kickstarted the conversion of 500 metric tons of highly enriched uranium (HEU), the kind used in bombs, into low-enriched uranium (LEU), the kind that fuels nuclear power plants. That uranium generated 10% of US electricity over the course of 20 years. Megatons to Megawatts was diplomatically deft, reducing the risk of nuclear catastrophe while providing zero-carbon energy. It took advantage of a unique political moment with the USSR’s dissolution in 1991, which opened a door through which arms control agreements moved with remarkable speed.

At the time the program was created, the civilian energy was seen as just a nice bonus. Its main purpose was to address America’s national security concerns by whittling down the enormous Russian arsenal and securing nuclear material that experts feared might end up in the hands of terrorists or other rogue nations after the Soviet Union’s dissolution. For Russia, the exchange offered billions of dollars in revenue for its collapsed economy, integration into international institutions, and development of its nuclear industry into the global player it is today.

Upgrading the Delivery Systems and Yield of US Nukes

Delivery Systems. Nearly all ICBMs as on date are nearly 60 year old MINUTEMAN III. All existing ICBMs will be replaced by the new LGM-35A SENTINEL at a whopping cost of over USD 100 Billion. Silo based ICBMs are part of nuclear triad.

Nuclear Warheads. Older nuclear warhead B-61 had four derivatives called 3,4,7 and 10. Nearly all nuclear warheads by 2029 will be B61-12, which will be modified from existing B-61 derivatives. This warhead will also be carried by modified F-16s, F-15E, F-35A, Tornado of German and Italian Air forces. In addition B-2 and B-21 STRATEGIC BOMBERS of USAF will also carry it. Pentagon announced in 2023 that B61-12 is also being upgraded to B61-13, which will have higher yield of around 360 KT as against 50 KT B61-12.

Fooling US Public after First Nuclear Test

Even when 2nd World War was still raging USA was secretly developing nuclear weapon. On 16th July, 1945 USA carried out the first nuclear test of unknown strength. It was codenamed ‘TRINITY’. The test range was located approximately 200 miles south of Los Alamos. TRINITY exploded with the force of nearly 25,000 tons of TNT around 5:00 a.m. Then US government responded to frightened population by declaring that it was an explosion at an ammunition dump.

Five Eyes Snooping Project

While maintaining and covering itself with the façade of democratic values US government has been/is spying even on ‘supposedly’ friendly nations under a intel network called FIVE EYES Programme. There are five members of this programme; Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK and USA. It is also known by the nickname of STONE GHOST.

The alliance is post WW II relic as stated by Edward Snowden. Members are Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK and USA. Self proclaimed ‘POLICEMEN’ have divided entire globe region wise. Each member nation of Five Eyes Alliance has been given well defined regions/nations for surveillance (read snooping). Area of responsibility for eves dropping country wise is listed below;

· Australia. Indo-China, neighbouring countries viz Philipines, Indonesia and southern China region is snooped upon by Australia.

· Canada. Takes care of northern most territory, specially polar regions of Russia.

· New Zealand. Entire western Pacific region comes under surveillance.

· UK. Entire African continent and former USSR region west of Ural mountains is responsibility of UK.

· USA. As unstated leader of the snooping alliance USA covers, Northern China, entire Russia, Latin America and most of Asia. India comes under US snooping agency. Therefore, there is no need to get upset over the ongoing Trump Tariff drama.

· In order to enhance cooperation among member nations ‘Five Eyes Intelligence Oversight and Review Council (FIORC) was set up few years ago. The word ‘OVERSIGHT’ is extremely relevant. It implies that even though a member nation might have missed some relevant info, other members are obliged to share info on that matter with concerned nation. FIORC charter projects it as ‘Non-political Intelligence Oversight, Review and Security Entities’. What a comprehensive statement of responsibilities!

Nuclear Deterrence

Ever since promulgation of Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) successive US administration has tried to influence (read pressurize/threaten) non nuclear nations from acquiring nuclear capability. Imposition of sanctions has been and continues to be its main weapon. India has tasted US sanctions in 1974 and 1988. It continues to preach non nuclearisation. Ongoing war with Iran is latest example of US hypocrisy.

When USSR disintigerated and Ukraine became an independent nation, most of erstwhile USSR nukes were in present Ukrainian territory. USA and EU nations convinced Ukraine to surrender the nukes to Russia in exchange of security guarantee.

Now USA has offered to place nukes in Poland. UK and France have decided to take care of their security by joining their nuclear capability independent of USA. Moscow’s massive nuclear arsenal cannot be compared with what is available with EU nations in 2026. Trying to get Finland into nuclear fold is ongoing. Finland has been one of the most vociferous opponent of deploying nukes in its territory but now it is ready to revisit its stand.

Poland and Finland will provide nukes right along the Russian perimeter. USA thus preaches something else but in practice the biggest nuclear proliferator.

Acting Against Own

Above quoted instances are but a few of most blatant examples of US ‘Double Speak’. But the dark web of USA does not spare even their own. Jimmy Carter’s re-election bid was thwarted from within.

Iranian hostage crisis and failure of Operation Eagle Claw had placed Carter in an unenviable position. John Connolly Jr, former Texas Governor, who lost the White House bid was a former democrat. He sought Republican nomination in 1980 but was out done by Reagan. To ensure Reagan’s win and Carter’s defeat Mr Conolly and his aide Mr Barnes met quite a few middle east nation official requesting them to tell Iran not to release 52 American hostage before US Presidential elections with a promise that Reagan will offer better deal. Rest is history. Carter lost.

Above instances might be considered as biased view of an Indian, hence it will only be appropriate to conclude with what an American Soldier said about its administration.

War lasted 11 years. No point talking about the bomb tonnage and missions flown.

It reads:

“We the unwilling, led by the unqualified to kill the unfortunate, die for ungrateful”.

That is the finest summation of American hypocrisy.
